Muller Professional Services, 4 Atlantic Quay Glasgow
41,008 sq ft of Grade A space in the heart of Glasgow’s International Financial Services District. 4 Atlantic Quay comprises ten floors of column-free open-plan space with full-height glazing, creating a building flooded with natural daylight. The upper floors benefit from far reaching views across Glasgow’s skyline.
Due to a government body taking over 4 floors of 4AQ, Muller had to create additional toilets as the original would not meet building standards. The works involved the creation of entirely new toilet facilities in an area of the office space over 4 floors.
The biggest hurdle of this project was installing a new drainage system from the roof, down 7 floors and into the basement. This involved coring through every floor, installing and testing the pipework and then fire rating all penetrations.
The position of the toilets required breaking through the main firewall to 4 floors, installing fire rated doors and fire rating all areas from ceiling to floor voids. All new walls were full height and fully fire rated and sealed. Requirement of a high sound attenuation over and above fire rating was specified as the toilets backed onto the existing office. CUBED specified the partitions for approval by the architect.
Fixtures and fittings were designed by the architect with CUBED’s input on being able to provide high quality products but within a reduced budget to the original. The new cubicles were finished in oak veneer, vanity units in corian and floors and feature walls finished with porcelain tiles.
A further 2 floors were given the go ahead and finished to the same specification following the successful installation, and although working to a very tight deadline CUBED finished the project ahead of schedule.
